Week 4 | Bonus Video

A compiled version of the 3 animations. I would suggest to put the volume down a little, it might be a bit loud. Although Nicki Minaj was the current mood I was in when making this video.

Strangely enough exporting the files as mp4s caused a jittery affect on the videos when produced but this video was saved as a wmv and the quality turned out fine.

I uploaded a wmv version of the 3 animations for clearer viewing. These versions have no jitter to them so hopefully viewing will be better.

Week 3 | The Short Film, Box

Box - The Creators Project

This short film is about projection mapping on surfaces.
Seeing that I have been sketching textures all week, I found this video really interesting in relation to a few different elements.

The first thing that captivated my attention was the focus on the object, the box. Throughout my design process, I have thought through how I want the client's products to stand out in the space. The space and lighting in the film really gather your attention onto that object.

As the object, the box, travels through the space, it interacts with the props which sort of become part of the architecture. So it is essential for the space in the design building to respond well with the client's products/objects and to compliment them.

Now within the box, textures are projected and the way the box moves, affects the way the textures interact with one another and evolve through the projection. The texture assignment for my model should really be considered in terms of how it will compliment to space and movement within the space.

Week 3 | Material and Object Application

Before selecting the textures, I tested out the tessellation pattern of a few sketches that I felt were appropriate to see if the texture will look seamless when applied to the surface.

Week 3 | 32 Textures

The following sketches represent words that describe either the features, qualities or properties of materials.

I  inverted the above sketches to see the kinds of results that would come out. For some of the words, the sketch no longer matches the word but for some sketches, the inverted image looks more suitable.

Week 2 | Stair Details

The word used for the upper level was "rugged" which was inspired by the leather jackets. I therefore attempted to make the stairs almost zig-zag in shape so that the model wearing the jacket or carrying it walks out with a harsh, attitude like, 'rugged' walk. I have also ditched the conventional railing and created a wall like structure that corresponds to the upper ground section pattern. The artist doesn't use conventional methods in his jacket making so I wanted the architecture to correspond to the unconventional form.

I wanted to develop a stair case that lead down to a runway so that everytime a jacket enters the showroom, it really grabs the audience/ buyers attention.

The word selected for the lower ground level was 'accelerate'. I wanted the motorcycle to have a powerful entrance, therefore why not let it "accelerate" into the showcase space. There's a lot of fluid movement on the floors below to accommodate to the motorcycle's commute up to the showcase. So for human circulation,  I wanted to add stairs that look like they are a part of the contours of the floors and almost look seamless to the contours.

Material Variation: I am contemplating the decision of a stair finish. The glass finish creates a massive contrast to the heavy weight floor. It makes the stairs look fragile amongst the floor which I think evokes an interesting reaction.

For the upper "mechanical" level, I was inspired to develop a stair that was somewhat industrial looking. The first stair under the cantilever portion of the stair lecture (image bellow) was the vibe that I get when I think mechanically. I also looked into escalators because they are mechanically structured stairs.

Influenced by the word "rugged", I tried to develop a stair for the lower ground that was very organic in shape because when I think of anything rugged, I think of terrain or natural elements. I selected timber as the chosen finish to emphasise the natural element.

Week 1 | 3D model

I chose Christian Benner Custom's adjective "Rugged" as the first floor and Hazan Motorwork's verb "Accelerate" as the lower ground floor to be modelled into 3D.

Out of the 18 sketched sections, this sketch appealed to me the most because I felt it demonstrated the adjective and verb quite better than the other sketches.
It also established a sense of space.

I traced the sketches and have a good idea about how the spaces will function, although haven't quite established the external facades in 3D yet.
